Signs you need a fractional sales leader.

If two or more of these are true, your sales team needs a leader, not more effort.

FOUNDER-LED

The founder is still the best salesperson, and the busiest.

MISSED QUOTA

Reps miss quota and nobody can say exactly why.

NO FORECAST

There's no forecast you'd bet on in front of the board.

A HIRE THAT MISSED

STALLED GROWTH

Growth stalled after the early wins.

What a fractional sales leader actually does.

A fractional sales leader is a senior sales executive who leads your team part-time. Some companies call the role a fractional VP of Sales, a fractional sales manager or a fractional sales executive. The title matters less than the job: someone experienced owns the number, runs the team and builds a sales process that works without the founder in every deal.

When I step in, I start with what is already there. Who is selling, what they are selling, how deals move from the first call to the close, and where they stall. Then I take over the parts a sales leader should own: the weekly pipeline review, deal strategy on your biggest opportunities, coaching for every rep, hiring for the seats you are missing, and a forecast you can take to your board.

The title matters less than the job. Someone has to own the number.

When to hire a fractional VP of Sales

Most growing B2B companies hit the same wall. The founder closed the early deals, a few reps were hired, and growth slowed. Hiring a full-time VP of Sales is a big bet: months of recruiting, a full executive salary, and no way to know if the person fits until they are in the seat.

A fractional sales leader gives you senior leadership now. We build the team and the process together, and you decide on a full-time hire later, with someone beside you who knows exactly what that hire needs to look like.

Fractional sales leadership vs. outsourced sales management

Outsourced sales management usually means an agency running your sales from the outside. I work from the inside. I join your meetings, lead your people and answer for the number with you. When a piece needs a specialist, like CRM setup, reporting or a marketing push, my team handles it. You get one leader, with the depth of a full team behind me.

How it starts

It starts with a free Executive Revenue Review. You answer 20 questions, my team and I look at your business from the outside, and I send you a private review of where your revenue is breaking. If it makes sense to work together, we agree on the plan, the scope and how I am paid, including performance-based options. Then I get to work.

Questions about fractional sales leadership.

What is a fractional sales leader?

A senior sales leader who works with you part-time. You get the experience of a VP of Sales or sales executive, leading your team and owning the number, without a full-time executive salary.

Is a fractional VP of Sales different from a fractional CRO?

A fractional VP of Sales focuses on the sales team. A fractional CRO owns all of revenue: sales, marketing and operations. I can step in at either level, depending on what your company needs. More on working with a fractional CRO.

Do you manage our existing sales reps?

Yes. I lead and coach the team you have, and help you hire where there are gaps. Your reps keep working for you. I lead them.

Is this the same as outsourced sales management?

It's close, but more hands-on. Outsourced sales management often means an agency managing from a distance. As your fractional sales manager, I sit inside your team, run the meetings and own the number with you.

How long does an engagement last?

As long as it's useful. Some companies keep me on as their fractional sales leader for the long term. Others bring me in to build the team and hand it to a full-time leader I help them hire.
